Writer Profile/Biography: Mulk Raj Anand Mulk Raj Anand was born in 1905 in Peshawar. He was one of the most acclaimed Indian English writers. He was the towering personality of 20th century intellectual world. He was a versatile figure encompassing various talents being a writer, a political activist, a critic, a thinker and connoisseur of visual arts, architecture and design. He was educated in the University of Punjab and went to London to study in Cambridge University. His political activism was another dimension of his constructive thinking that had been manifested throughout his writing. In fact, Anand’s political concern for the oppressed and rejected had been voiced by him right from his initial writings like Untouchable (1935) and Coolie (1936).
