Writer: Samaresh Bose
Samaresh Bose was born on December 11, 1924 in Bikrampur of erstwhile Bangladesh. He received little formal education. His childhood years were spent in Naihati. He came to Calcutta at the age of thirteen and worked hard to earn a living. He worked as an egg seller and did every sort of menial job in return for meagre wages. He worked in an ordnance factory for a few years in Ichhapore. He used to live in slums for quite a long time. . He wrote major novels like Amritakumbher Sandhane, Nirjan Saikate and Kothai Pabo Tare with the nom de plume Kalkut where he remained as an impartial spectator to a fair, a group or a community. His other noteworthy works include Tridhara, Ayananta, and Dekhi Nai Phire. He received Sahitya Akademi Award for his analysis of Puranic myth Shamba. He passed away on March 12, 1988.
